Overview
The shotgun is the most devastating firearm available. One press of the trigger directs more firepower than any other firearm in one’s personal arsenal. The shotgun is a smooth bore, shoulder-mounted firearm that is very versatile due to the number of loads that can be used. It has a powerful psychological effect and is a symbol of authority.
Learn to employ the shotgun through a variety of techniques. Students are taught proper nomenclature, tactical loading and unloading techniques, patterning the shotgun, shooting from various positions/distances, shooting on the move, multiple targets engagements, how to carry for speed employment, employment in outdoor and indoor situations, to shoot on the move, select ammunition, and much more.
Students should prepare themselves to respond properly to a wide variety of threatening situations. To avoid injury we must train to recognize possible threats and plan a response to them before they occur. Students should become familiar with mounting and shooting the shotgun from positions other than the shoulder mount. They should also be familiar with shooting while holding the shotgun in the event that handgun fails and a transition to the handgun must be made.
