Overview
In this course, we teach you about your handgun, how to shoot, and complete the Texas License to Carry Handgun minimum of four (4) hours, maximum six (6) hours of classroom instruction, written examination and the proficiency demonstration. Material is provided in modules with specific amounts of time allotted for each module. Testing, travel, and range time and testing is not included in the 4-6 hours.
This course also meets most of the NRA Basic Pistol Instructor Led Training objectives. A second range time is required to fully complete NRA objectives.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) administers the Handgun Licensing Program under the authority of the Texas Government Code Chapter 411, Subchapter H. DPS licenses individuals to carry handguns within Texas, evaluates the eligibility of applicants through criminal history background checks and monitors those currently licensed to ensure their continued eligibility.

Material is provided in modules with specific amounts of time allotted for each module. Driving to/from the range, breaks, testing, etc. is not included in the 4-6 hours.
