Giving back and investing in our community is very important to P3TC. Although most of our training is open to anyone, we do have some classes that are specifically designed to be conducted for community groups and special members of our society. For example, the “Community Anti-Terrorism Training” and “Human Trafficking Awareness” classes are designed for any groups, large or small, whereas other classes, such as the “Babysitting Lessons and Safety Training” is specifically designed for those members of the community who may be providing babysitting services.
Refuse To Be A Victim(R), Hunter Education, Eddie Eagle Gun Safety, and Firearms Safety opportunities are available as well.

Have a Conversation with Kids about Firearm Safety
It’s important that children become familiar with the rules of firearm safety. Show the Eddie Eagle Gun Safety video to your kids at every opportunity. If they are breathing, they are old enough to watch. Please let Eddie begin brainwashing your kids early.

NRA Refuse To Be A Victim(R)
Refuse To Be A Victim® is a 4-hour crime prevention seminar, NO FIREARMS, designed by the National Rifle Association, to provide common‑sense information geared toward awareness and avoidance of criminal attack. Certified instructors help seminar participants better understand criminal thinking and provide tips on maximizing home, automobile, telephone, technological, and personal security. Participants learn unbiased information about carjacking prevention strategies; self-defense training options; and the use of devices such as pepper spray, mace, and stun guns.
This safety awareness message has been presented in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Additionally, thousands of people have attended seminars and this is what they have to say about the program:

Texas Hunter Education Information

Hunter Education Requirement
Every hunter (including out-of-state hunters) born on or after Sept. 2, 1971, must successfully complete a Hunter Education Training Course. Minimum age of certification is 9 years of age.
If you were born on or after September 2, 1971 and you are:
- under 9 years of age, you must be accompanied*
- age 9 through 16, you must successfully complete a hunter education course, or you must be accompanied*
- age 17 and over, you must successfully complete a hunter education course; or purchase a “Hunter Education Deferral” and you must be accompanied*
Please note that some federally controlled areas require all hunters using that site to have hunter education certification. In Texas, this includes Corps of Engineers property and most military reservations. Be sure to check with the specific area prior to going hunting.
Note:
- Certification is NOT required to purchase a hunting license. Proof of hunter education certification or deferral is required to be on your person while hunting.
- Bowhunter Education does NOT substitute for Hunter Education certification.
Hunter Education Training
Effective September 2013, the Commission changed to the hunter education program.
The changes as approved by the Commission include:
- One day traditional class with a maximum of six (6) classroom instruction hours. This does not include registration and testing
- Online home study with a field day of a minimum of four (4) hours and maximum of five (5) hours of classroom instruction
- Online certification option for individuals 17 years of age or older
Passing scores for all options for hunter education certification is 75% or higher
Online vendors will set their own fees, not to exceed an amount set by the TPWD executive director
Separate and unrelated to your Hunter Education course, you may participate in a four (4) hour National Rifle Association (NRA) Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, and Safety Training (FIRST) course for Shotgun or Rifle preceding or following your class. See the Course Catalog for more information and schedule.
Hunter Education Deferral (cost: $10) Allows a person 17 years of age or older who has not completed a hunter education program to defer completion for up to one year. A deferral may only be obtained once and is only valid until the end of the current license year. A person who has been convicted or has received deferred adjudication for violation of the mandatory hunter education requirement is prohibited from applying for a deferral. Take the course by August 31 of the current license year and receive a $5 discount. The one-time Hunter Education Deferral is available at license vendors and went into effect September 1, 2004.
*Accompanied means: By a person who is at least 17, who is licensed to hunt in Texas, who has passed hunter education or is exempt (born before Sept. 2, 1971), and you must be within normal voice control. Proof of certification or deferral is required to be on your person while hunting.
Hunter Orange Requirement
All hunters and persons accompanying a hunter on National Forests and Grasslands, must wear a minimum of 144 square inches of Hunter Orange visible on the chest and back plus a Hunter Orange cap or hat. Call the US Forest Service and US Army Corps of Engineers for more information. It is recommend to always wear Hunter Orange in any hunting area
